Upper Rappahannock River Cleanup
May 25 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pmFree
Join Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) and John Marshall Soil and Water Conservation District (JMSWCD) for a River Cleanup event targeting several sites on the Rappahannock River in Fauquier and Culpeper Counties. One of the major causes of pollution in Virginia waterways is caused by trash and debris. This includes small things like plastic straws, bottle caps, and pop tabs but also includes truck tires, scrap metal, cars, and Porta Johns!!! The Rappahannock River is an incredible resource right in our back yard and we need to work together to keep it clean.
We will be meeting at several different locations to target dumping sites and discarded litter. There will be sites that focus on land areas adjacent to rivers and streams and if the water conditions allow, several sites in the river that need our attention. Final meeting places TBD.
All groups and participants must register prior to the event.
Volunteer crews will be paired with a staff member from FOR or JMSWCD. All clean up materials will be provided.
All participants must complete a WAIVER in order to participate in this event.
This event is 100% contingent on river and weather conditions. All participants will be updated about the status of the event within 48 hours of the start date.
