As a small staff with lots of active programs, we constantly need the help of volunteers to achieve our conservation goals on behalf of the river. To accomplish our mission for preserving and protecting the Rappahannock, we rely on the help of hundreds of volunteers every year!
Your help makes a difference!
As a FOR volunteer, you can donate your time to help us for a day at a special event, such as a river cleanup or RiverFest, or you can sign up for a long term volunteer position, such as office work. Keep reading to learn about some of common the ways that people support FOR and a healthier Rappahannock River! |
Volunteer and become part of the Rappahannock Restore Corps today! For more information check out the regional tabs on this page or contact one of our Volunteer Coordinators today!

Advocacy
|
Become a River Advocate by writing letters to politicians and attending public meetings with local officials to advocate for clean water.
Become a Sediment Ranger by attending a Get the Dirt Out! workshop to learn how to identify and report poor erosion and sediment control in your area.
|
| Restoration |
Join our restoration efforts by becoming part of the Rappahannock Restore Corps. Organize a river cleanup with friends, help to plant trees or build a raingarden with Rainscape Retrofits, or take part in a rain barrel building workshop!
|
| Education |
Thousands of kids visit FOR every year. We sometimes need energetic volunteers who like to teach to help out with numerous programs for kids throughout the year from our Wildlife Festival to Summer Camps.
Healthy Rivers Start at Home is a program about how to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly at home! You can either host a gathering for your friends or come to one our scheduled meetings to learn about the program!
|
| Outreach |
Help share FOR's mission and many programs by representing us at outreach events. High energy volunteers are needed to answer questions, explain different projects, and encourage people to get involved! |
Organizational
Support |
Become and office assistant and help with administrative needs, data entry, mailings, and writing letters.
FOR has 12 acres of riverfront property and LOTS of visitors. We need lots of hands to help keep the grounds maintained and safe for visitors. We also have a brand new River Steward boat that we need help taking care of!
