Katie holds a B.S. from the University of West Florida in Marine Biology and is pursuing a master’s degree in natural resource management through Virginia Tech.  Prior to joining the Friends of the Rappahannock in May 2010, Katie taught life science with Fairfax County Public Schools and served a two year internship as a biological research assistant for the Environmental Protection Agency, Gulf Ecology Division.

Katie is a Virginia native, Master Naturalist and certified Stream Monitor.  Her work at FOR includes research and development, volunteer coordination, grant writing, marketing and hosting rain barrel workshops and events for community and FOR members.

Walking through the woods, swimming in the river, spending time with loved ones and making music is how she spends her spare time. Inspiring, educating and connecting others to our local natural resources, which are often hidden in Virginia’s urban sprawl, is not only her career goal, but also her hobby and joy.
